Whispered Words

 So near

I hear your voice
echo through the hollow chambers of my heart,
gliding softly across the walls of my soul

But I can’t touch you
Can’t taste the silence curled behind your lips,
can’t trap your scent between my fingers,
can’t steal your breath with mine
Can’t thread my hands through your hair

You’re so close
my thoughts move with yours
without the need for eyes.

So close, it becomes torment:
to feel you everywhere
but never in my arms

I don’t ache from distance
I ache
from how near
you almost are...

Nidal Sati

A woman gazes through a rainy window at the man she loves—he’s there, just beyond the glass, unaware of her presence. She sees him clearly, but cannot reach him.
